Fish Oil: Omega 3 Benefits For Women

Posted by Michael Byrd on Oct 31 2007 | Tagged as: Fish Oil

For many women, Omega 3 Fish Oil is essential. It not only provides relief for PMS, but women who suffer with Dysmennorhea, which are very painful cramps during their cycle, can find that Omega 3 Fish Oil is especially beneficial.

Omega 3 is important for fertility because of its ability to help raise the hormonal levels and get more blood to your uterus. It is also advised that taking fish oil can help prevent preeclampsia by maintaining a healthy blood pressure level.

Taking Omega 3 fish oil will help ensure that you will have a healthy baby as well. It lowers the risk of a premature birth, reduces the incidence of postpartum depression and advances a baby’s brain development. Omega 3 has also been shown to provide protection against breast cancer by providing an anti-inflammatory effect which stops cellular transformations and extinguishes cancer cells.

Omega 3 is also important during menopause due to its ability to relieve hot flashes, assist in balanced hormones and provide protection against Osteoporosis.

Omega 3 has also been shown to help protect you against heart disease – the number one killer of women.

Fish Oil: Omega 3 Fish Oil Can Help Stop Melanoma Growth

The American Health Foundation and the New York Medial College discovered that DHA, found in omega 3 fish oil in sardines and salmon can stop the growth of human melanoma cells by up to 50 percent, according to Cancer Research, Vol. 60: 4139-45.

Over a million Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer yearly and 60,000 of these cases are malignant. It is a common cancer with younger individuals, but can affect anyone as 10,000 die from it yearly.

Even though Melanoma is very serious, if found early, it can be treated and cured. If it is not however, it can metasisize or grow deeper into the skin and spread to other organs, becoming life-threatening.

Besides taking the precautions such as using sun block and wearing cover-ups and sun-reflecting clothes when going outside, there is something else you can do that will protect you from this disease. You can consume a diet rich in omega 3 oils and/or take the required supplements. This diet will help ward off the disease and/or help stop the growth of it.

It is not recommended to consume too much omega 6 oil such as corn, safflower, or soybean oil as it can encourage growth of Melanoma.

If you are a woman with diabetes, you need to eat more fish. Diabetic women who eat fish once a week have a 40 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease than those who don’t. (Circulation, Vol. 107: 1852-57)

A group of researchers from Harvard University concluded that diabetics have up to twice the risk of heart disease and two to four times the risk of a stroke. As of the 1980’s, heart disease resulting in fatalities has risen by 13 percent for men and 23 percent for women. For those who do not have the disease, the risk of heart diseases dropped by 27 percent for women and 36 percent for men.

They also concluded that if diabetics ate more salmon, sardines, salmon, and other fish that contain DHA and EPA, they could lower these statistics. However, up to 85 percent of Americans are deficient in omega 3 oil with 20 percent not even having it showing up in blood tests.

In contrast, Europeans eat twice as much and the Japanese eat up to six times as much fish.

The American Heart Association says that all people should eat fish rich in omega 23 oil up to two to three times a week to protect themselves from cardiovascular disease and fatal heart attack or sudden cardiac death. They advise for diabetics and those at a greater risk of heart disease to take it under a doctor’s supervision. At the moment, there is no data about men with diabetes and fish oil, but a study did say that if they eat fish twice a week, they would have a 29 percent lowered risk of mortality.
