What will it be: farm raised or wild salmon?
Some people may not even know the difference between the two, but for the more enlightened others, the answer is crystal clear – wild, of course! But do you really know why wild salmon is the better choice?
Okay, let me tell you why…
Basically, there are three major reasons why wild salmon is the better choice – they are more nutritious, they are safer to eat, and they are more taste bud-friendly, too!
Why are wild salmon more nutritious?
Wild salmon thrives in cold open water, where they are free to move about and forage as they please. They get enough exercise to keep their meat firmer, and get to eat fresh, nutritious whole foods. This natural diet keeps their omega 3 content high and their meat tasty, too! Now, that’s definitely what we’re looking for!
On the other hand, farm raised salmon live in critically cramped conditions. Their overcrowded environment gives them very little room to move about. These fish farms are overly congested to the point that these unfortunate animals breathe and swim through each other’s own bodily wastes! Can you imagine that?
As a result, they have higher bad fat and lower omega 3 fatty acid contents in their bodies. And what good are salmon if they have low levels of omega 3 oils? They’ll lose their special identity – they’ll be just like any other fish!
Why are they safer to eat?
Wild salmon live in their natural environment and get to eat their natural diet. They are less exposed to unwanted toxins and chemicals than their farm-raised counterparts. As a result, they are healthier, have improved immunity, and have higher nutrient contents, too!
And what do farm-raised salmon eat? These ill-fated creatures are given a standard fish diet – those crappy formulations that contain a load of antibiotics, coloring agents, and pesticides! With such demeaning and unhealthy living conditions, they surely need these medications to overcome the very real threat of serious infections.
These confined salmon also run a higher risk of containing harmful toxins and heavy metals such as PBDE compounds (a flame retardant additive) and mercury. Would you like to eat these toxins along with your fish? Well, I don’t think so.
Why are they more taste bud-friendly?
Natural and fresh should be the only way to have your salmon, nothing less. And this is what you get with wild salmon.
With farm-raised salmon, it’s a different story altogether! They have mushy and naturally gray meat, and coloring agents need to be added just to get the desired color. Can you believe that they even have color swatches to help them get the right one? Oh, this is bad news, if you ask me!
And finally, fish farms are just plain horrible! They are neither good for the fish nor the people who eat them. Worse, they are even bad for the environment, too. Farm-raised fish, with their high antibiotic content, contribute to the antibiotic resistance in humans, and fish farms can threaten the entire wild fish population.
So, make your choice. Will it be wild or farm-raised salmon for you? Remember, it’s your health on the line. The only omega 3 supplement I give my family is Salmon Oil Plus, which is made from the flesh of wild, health screened, disease-free salmon that live in the cold, clean waters of the Arctic Circle. That beats a fish farm any day!

Are you suffering from crippling pains in the joints of your fingers, hands or wrists? Are the areas around your joints swollen, tender and warm to the touch? If you notice these warning signs, you may already be experiencing the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, so beware!
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) develops when the immune system becomes too weak to prevent viruses that attack the joints, or is unable to recognize the attacking viruses that even the healthy cells are destroyed by the immune system in the process.
How do you know if it’s rheumatoid arthritis? If there is pain, inflammation, and swelling and stiffness in the joints, accompanied by loss of appetite, sleep deprivation, fatigue, and depression, there is an overwhelming chance that you’ve got it! Add that to the fact that you are a woman (studies indicate that there are more women RA sufferers than men), and between the ages of 30 to 50 and you can be most certain that it’s RA.
To avoid the spread of this degenerative disease throughout your body, you must do something to stop it in its track before it gets too late. If not, you may have to bear with the consequences and regret it for the rest of your life.
There are medications that can be prescribed to relieve the pain but it will be much better if you can manage it naturally. How? By boosting your immune system! You can do this by following these healthy arthritis natural treatment guidelines:
With the help of moderate exercise, the right diet, a positive outlook in life, and good quality natural whole food supplements, you will surely lead a longer, more vigorous, and happier life ahead. That, I can guarantee you!

For those of you who have been faithfully reading my blog for quite a while, you’ll notice that I’m a big fan of DHA. And why not? DHA brings with it a lot of benefits essential for keeping our bodies strong and healthy. Go ahead and read some of my earlier posts. You’ll surely marvel at the wonderful effects of DHA!
So, what exactly is DHA? And why do we need it?
DHA stands for docosahaexanoic acid, an essential fatty acid found mostly in certain cold deep water fish such as salmon, sardines, herring, and mackerel. Aside from reducing the risks of heart disease and other serious complications such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and arteriosclerosis, DHA also exerts a beneficial effect on your brain.
In a 9-year study conducted by Dr. Ernest J. Schaefer at the Tufts University, it was observed that eating fish and taking DHA-rich fish oil supplements can significantly lower the risks of dementia by a whooping 47%. The same study also revealed that by shifting to a diet rich in omega 3 fish, the risks of developing Alzheimer’s disease can also be reduced by as much as 39%! Isn’t that reason enough to start eating fish?
According to Dr. Schaefer, out of the 899 senior men and women who volunteered for the study, the most significant benefits were observed among those who ate an average of three servings of fish a week. On the other hand, those who don’t eat fish or eat the least amount of fish were observed to suffer the most from these degenerative brain diseases.
There really are a lot of valid reasons why you need to eat fish and to supplement your diet with a superior omega-3 fish oil product such as Salmon Oil Plus. And keeping your brain clear and alert even as you reach a ripe old age is one of them.
