Fish Oil Fast Fact #72: The Low-Profile Secret to Preventing Childhood Diabetes

Posted by Michael Byrd on Apr 26 2009 | Tagged as: Fish Oil

Juvenile diabetes can be prevented in many cases, but hardly anyone knows how or why the method works. As a result, it is not recommended by doctors, and few people are aware of the impact that it could have on their own and their children’s lives. However, many studies indicate that omega 3 fatty acid, an essential nutrient found in fish oil, could potentially prevent a large percentage of cases of juvenile diabetes from ever developing in the first place (Environmental Health Perspectives 2000). Even if you do not believe that your child is at risk for juvenile diabetes, taking this simple step can also shore up his or her cardiovascular system, improve memory and focus and even increase resistance to other neurological conditions like depression, bipolar disorder and Alzheimer’s disease later in life.

Fish Oil Fast Fact #71: Fish Oil Prevents Diabetes

Diabetes is a somewhat mysterious illness to the general public. Most of us know someone who has the disease, but generally it can be managed with insulin and by taking regular blood tests to check your blood sugar levels. As a result, it may not seem like a very big deal. However, diabetes can lead to all sorts of complications that can endanger your health and your life, so obviously it would be better to avoid it, right?

Of course. And one of the best ways to prevent it is, according to scientists, not only overwhelming in its success rate, but as simple as taking a daily fish oil supplement in order to insure your body is getting enough omega 3 to prevent the development of the disease (Minerva Endocrinol 2005 vol. 30, no. 3: 79-91). Even if you are perfectly healthy now, shore up your future defenses by starting to get the right amount of omega 3 fatty acid today.

Fish Oil Fast Fact #70: Could You be Letting Your Child Develop Diabetes?

Posted by Michael Byrd on Apr 22 2009 | Tagged as: Fish Oil

As a parent, you would do anything to protect your children. However, as much as you would like to, you cannot protect them from the things you do not know are there. That is why it is so important to be aware of nutritional deficiencies that may play a part in childhood illnesses but that are nearly impossible to detect in most cases. A perfect example of this type of problem is juvenile diabetes, which can develop as a result of a deficiency in a child’s omega 3 intake (Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Research Frontline 2007). The addition of a simple omega 3 supplement, such as a salmon oil capsule, to your child’s daily diet could mean the difference between a healthy child and adulthood and one complicated by chronic illness.
