Fish Oil Fast Fact #167: The Formula for Improving Milk Formula

Nearly all research and scientific studies are in agreement that the best thing for infants is their mother’s breast milk. However, if breast milk is not an option, you will always want to use the best formula possible for your new baby, and according to several studies recently released by Healthspan, a British pediatric wellness group, infants fed omega 3-rich formula performed nearly as well on cognitive tests as infants who were breast fed, and they actually performed as well or better than infants who were breastfed but whose mothers had low levels of omega 3 in their diets (http://www.omega3forchildren.co.uk/articles/article_details.aspx?id=231). While the benefits of omega 3 certainly do not stop when a child reaches the age to stop breast feeding, getting enough omega 3 early in life leads to better brain development, superior eyesight and can even help prevent the health conditions that often lead to the development of juvenile diabetes. So whether you breast feed your child or you plan to use formula, make sure that you take the necessary steps to insure that they are getting enough omega 3 each and every day.
