Many of us take swimsuit season for granted. While we may groan about the way that our suits are a little tighter than we light or sigh at the occasional unsightly bulge, we are still eager for warm weather, summer clothes and time at the beach. However, if you suffer from psoriasis or other types of dry, patchy skin ailments, then you may actually have serious pangs of dread when the days start to get warmer and longer.
Fortunately, there may be a quick, easy answer for your exposure issues that you can implement immediately. Flaky patches of skin, psoriasis and even eczema can be caused by an omega 3 deficiency. Omega 3 is an essential nutrient found in fish oil, and in numerous studies done with monkeys and humans, one of the main results of this type of deficiency is a skin irritation that appears nearly identical to psoriasis (Current Atherosclerosis Reports Nov 2004 vol. 6, no. 6:461-7). Because omega 3 is a hard-hitting anti-inflammatory agent, it can clear up symptoms of the skin disorder and many times can permanently eliminate the problem.
