Omega 3 Fatty Acid DHA For Better Brain Health

For those of you who have been faithfully reading my blog for quite a while, you’ll notice that I’m a big fan of DHA. And why not? DHA brings with it a lot of benefits essential for keeping our bodies strong and healthy. Go ahead and read some of my earlier posts. You’ll surely marvel at the wonderful effects of DHA!

So, what exactly is DHA? And why do we need it?

DHA stands for docosahaexanoic acid, an essential fatty acid found mostly in certain cold deep water fish such as salmon, sardines, herring, and mackerel. Aside from reducing the risks of heart disease and other serious complications such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and arteriosclerosis, DHA also exerts a beneficial effect on your brain.

In a 9-year study conducted by Dr. Ernest J. Schaefer at the Tufts University, it was observed that eating fish and taking DHA-rich fish oil supplements can significantly lower the risks of dementia by a whooping 47%. The same study also revealed that by shifting to a diet rich in omega 3 fish, the risks of developing Alzheimer’s disease can also be reduced by as much as 39%! Isn’t that reason enough to start eating fish?

According to Dr. Schaefer, out of the 899 senior men and women who volunteered for the study, the most significant benefits were observed among those who ate an average of three servings of fish a week. On the other hand, those who don’t eat fish or eat the least amount of fish were observed to suffer the most from these degenerative brain diseases.

There really are a lot of valid reasons why you need to eat fish and to supplement your diet with a superior omega-3 fish oil product such as Salmon Oil Plus. And keeping your brain clear and alert even as you reach a ripe old age is one of them.
